"Lights" was a sleeper hit in the United States, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100 after 33 weeks on the chart, and lasted more than a year on the Hot 100. Lights  was originally announced as a single on September 8, 2010 on Goulding's official Twitter page. The Lights album was released in March 2010, and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and number six on the Irish Albums Chart.
