2 Chainz Arrested at LAX with Marijuana and Sizzurp Ingredient Promethazine

2 Chainz got arrested at LAX with pot and Promethazine - but was it all part of his genius plan to gain back some street cred after getting robbed?  It's a 2 Chainz-piracy!

The 35-year old rapper, 2 Chainz, was arrested in Los Angeles yesterday for possession of marijuana and promethazine, Billboard reports, just days after being robbed at gunpoint of his wallet and phone in Oakland.

Purple Drank or sizzurp are slang terms for recreational drug concoctions popular in the hip hop community in the southern United States, originating in Houston, Texas. The main ingredient is prescription-strength cough syrup containing codeine and promethazine. Cough syrup is typically mixed with ingredients such as Sprite, 7UP, or Mountain Dew and pieces of Jolly Rancher candy. The purplish hue of Purple Drank comes from dyes in the cough syrup.



In the Hip Hop world, DJ Screw, Big Moe, and Pimp C are reported to have died from promethazine/codeine effects or from promethazine/codeine effects contributing to his death.

The Drug Enforcement Administration reports "busts" involving syrup across the southern United States, particularly in Texas and Florida.

2 Chainz was arrested for marijuana possession in February 2013 and claimed the police wanted  pictures with him.

The owner of Dollhouse Lounge in Oklahoma City got arrested after letting Drake host a party at his club. Drake's VIP section was emanating a cloud of pot smoke. Police shut down the club and arrested the owner.
