"Closer to the Heart" is a single by Rush, released in 1977, from the album A Farewell to Kings. It was the first Rush song to have an external co-writer, namely Peter Talbot, a friend of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart.

"Closer to the Heart" was issued as a single on Christmas Day in 1977.

"Closer to the Heart" is one of the band's most popular recordings, receiving a fair amount of radio airplay still to this day.

High energy electric guitar and effects song especially for the early 1970s. Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress) was released on April 17, 1972, and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top 100 in September 1972. The song was recorded at AIR Studios July 16-30, 1971. The genre is considered swamp rock and has some early flange affect heard later in disco. Several unauthorized versions of the song were removed  from YouTube on copyright grounds. Some videos remain on YouTube but portions of the song were silenced.  The YouTube channel DJDiscoCat has an especially good "1972 Extended Meow Mix."
